Beige Box
Privacy Policy
Effective: November 2, 2026
Beige Box is an iOS app with five original pretend computers from earlier eras. You can write, draw, program in BASIC, play games and browse the real web on them. There is no account to create, no login, and no server run by this app. This policy explains what stays on your device, what happens when you browse the web, and what happens when you buy or restore the one-time unlock.
What stays on your device
Documents you write in Write, programs you save from the BASIC prompt, and pictures you save from Paint are stored as ordinary files in the app's Documents folder on your device. All five computers share this one disk. Because they are ordinary files, they also appear in the Files app under On My iPhone (or On My iPad) › Beige Box, and in Finder file sharing when you connect your device to a computer.
The app also stores a few settings on your device: which computer you picked, whether you finished the introduction, whether sound is muted, your screen colour and case colour choices, your best Worm and Breakwater scores, your Pairs best move count and wins, and a randomly generated guest name for the bulletin board. Game records stay on your device.
The app does not upload your files or settings. If you use iCloud Backup or back up your device to a computer, Apple's backup may include them under your backup settings.
Browsing the web
On the four desktop computers, Surf displays live, interactive websites directly from your device using Apple's WebKit. STUDIO 86 displays those pages in grayscale. HOMEROOM 82 fetches pages directly from your device and shows them as text. Browsing does not pass through any server run by this app, and the app does not send your browsing history to the developer.
As with any web browser, the websites you visit receive your IP address, the pages you request, and a browser identifier that names the app. They may set cookies or store other site data. The four desktop computers share WebKit's website storage within the app on your device. Anything you type into a web page is sent to that website.
When you type words that are not a web address, the app sends them as a search to DuckDuckGo. Websites and DuckDuckGo handle the information they receive under their own policies, including DuckDuckGo's Privacy Policy.
The BeigeNet bulletin board
BeigeNet is currently a local demonstration on your device, not a shared message board. The welcome posts are sample messages that ship with the app. Messages you post there stay in memory on your device. They are not sent anywhere, other people cannot see them, and they are cleared when the app is fully closed. Your guest name is generated on your device and is not sent anywhere.
Purchases
Beige Box is free to download. Using the computers requires a single one-time purchase. Apple processes the purchase itself; this app never receives your payment card details. Apple's signed purchase record on your device decides whether the unlock is active, so the computers keep working offline.
The app uses RevenueCat as its purchase layer. RevenueCat processes purchase history and an anonymous identifier that it assigns to your installation, so the app can complete and restore purchases and give the developer purchase analytics. The app turns off RevenueCat's automatic device identifier collection and diagnostics. It does not send RevenueCat a name, email address, custom user ID, advertising identifier, your files, or your browsing. Apple and RevenueCat handle the information they receive under their own policies: Apple's Privacy Policy and RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
Exporting files
You can choose Export in My Disk to send a file through the iOS share sheet. That is always something you start, and you choose where the file goes. Once you send or save it somewhere, the app or service you chose handles it under its own terms.
What the app does not do
- No advertising, ad networks, or advertising identifier.
- No app-owned account, login, or cloud sync.
- No tracking across other apps and websites, and no App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- No general app-usage analytics or crash reporting. RevenueCat's purchase analytics are described above.
- The built-in programs do not request your contacts, location, photos, camera, microphone, or notifications. Websites may offer their own file-selection controls. The app detects a connected hardware keyboard only to accept typing from it.
Keeping and deleting your information
You can delete a file with Delete in My Disk or in the Files app. Deleting a file in My Disk removes it from your device immediately. Deleting the app removes its files, settings and stored website data from that device, but not copies you exported or copies in your device backups. Restoring a purchase restores access to the computers; it does not bring back deleted files.
Purchase records held by Apple and RevenueCat are kept under their own retention practices and are not deleted by removing the app. If you have a question about purchase information associated with your installation, email the address below. Because the app assigns no identity to you, some requests may need information from your Apple purchase receipt.
Children
Surf opens the real web, and the app does not filter website content. The app is not designed for children to browse unsupervised; parents can use the device's own parental controls. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If the app adds a feature that changes what is processed, for example a shared bulletin board, a server run by this app, an account, or app-usage analytics, this policy will be updated before that feature ships, and the effective date above will change.
